The disproportionate assets case against suspended Kishanganj SDPO Gautam Kumar has taken a fresh turn, with the Economic Offences Unit now examining the finances of a woman domestic worker employed at his residence.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Paro, amassed wealth through her association with Kumar. She reportedly managed financial dealings on his behalf and used his patronage to acquire substantial properties. Photos of her riding a Thar SUV and a Royal Enfield Bullet, and flaunting large amounts of cash, have now gone viral.
Paro and her family members have been untraceable since the EOU began a separate probe into her case.
The latest development comes after the Bihar government suspended Kumar on April 7, a week after raids across Kishanganj, Patna, and Purnia led to the recovery of disproportionate assets worth Rs 80 crore.
EOU'S PROBE INTO KUMAR'S DA CASE
The EOU's investigation has revealed that Kumar was accumulating disproportionate wealth to support a female friend’s political ambitions.
The agency added that he was preparing to field her as a candidate from Kishanganj. Moreover, he harboured ambitions to enter politics after his retirement in 2030.
According to the agency, Kumar acquired 16 plots in Purnia, registering them in the names of his seven girlfriends, four wives, three mothers-in-law, and a son.
Investigators also found a tea estate, a bungalow and a two-storey building in Siliguri linked to him.
As the EOU widens its enquiry into the case, investigators are probing how Kumar accumulated and moved his disproportionate assets.
