Upon meeting Joy in the Inside Out realm, she will explain that you need proper protection before venturing into dangerous memory areas. Essentially, the two items that you require are the Mind Worker Gloves and Helmet.

These will keep you safe while exploring Riley's long-term memories, and without this gear, you cannot progress through the Emotional Rescue quest. The Mind Worker gear is stored in a set of lockers hidden under a staircase. There are a total of five lockers, each containing different items, so you will need to open the right ones to get what you need. Here are the directions that you have to follow:

  1. Start your search from Joy's console area, and look for the crafting bench.
  2. After finding the bench, head in that direction, and you will find some glowing orb displays.
  3. Upon reaching these displays, turn right. You will find a staircase leading up to a small structure.

The five lockers you're looking for are tucked away underneath this staircase.

Each locker has a different colored symbol, which helps you identify what's inside. The Mind Worker Gloves and Helmet are stored in the red and blue lockers. When you open these lockers, you will find that these items will appear as clothing bags instead of actual gear. Other lockers, like the purple and orange, hold Everlasting Cotton Candy, which you'll need for future quest tasksOnce you have the clothing bags, you must open them to access the equipment. Following this, the Emotional Rescue quest will automatically move forward, and you will gain access to the realm's elevator. This will take you to Riley's long-term memory domain. Entering this new area completes the Emotional Rescue quest and starts the next one called "Out of the Blue."Even though the Mind Worker Gloves and Helmet are only required for the Inside Out quests, you have the option to wear these later on. They essentially stay in your Wardrobe permanently.
