Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Eternal (formerly Zomato), has secured the top rank in Hurun India’s “Top 200 Self-Made Entrepreneurs of the Millennia 2025,” surpassing Avenue Supermarts (D-Mart) founder Radhakishan Damani. According to the list (seen by the Economic Times), Eternal’s valuation grew by 27% over the last year to reach Rs 3.2 lakh crore.
To compare, Radhakishan Damani’s Avenue Supermarts (DMart) saw a 13% decline in valuation, dropping to Rs 3 lakh crore and taking the second spot.
InterGlobe Aviation (IndiGo) founders Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal made a significant debut in the rankings, entering the top three with a company valuation of Rs 2.2 lakh crore.The 2025 list saw several notable shifts among India's top business leaders. Founders of Razorpay (Harshil Mathur and Shashank Kumar), Zerodha (Nithin and Nikhil Kamath), and Dream11 (Harsh Jain and Bhavit Sheth) all dropped out of the top 10 since last year. Meanwhile, Peyush Bansal, founder of the consumer tech brand Lenskart, secured the 10th position. Lenskart, founded in 2008, went public this year at a valuation of Rs 70,236 crore (approximately $8.4 billion), a 60% increase from the previous year.Commenting on the newly released list, Anas Rahman Junaid, Founder and Chief Researcher, Hurun India, said: “Even entry into the top 200 has become tougher; the threshold has risen 1.5 times, from about Rs 3,000 crore to nearly Rs 4,500 crore.
What once took decades to achieve is now being reached in 10-15 years.”The third edition of Hurun India's Top 200 Self-Made Entrepreneurs list, in association with IDFC First Bank, showcases the wealth creation by India's entrepreneurs who founded companies after 2000. The list highlights 200 of the nation's most valuable young enterprises, with a combined valuation of Rs 42 lakh crore ($469 billion), marking a 15% increase from the previous year.The top positions on the list include entrepreneurs from diverse sectors, including healthcare, food delivery, travel, insurance, fintech, and beauty.The list even shows a wide age diversity among entrepreneurs, ranging from Zepto's co-founders, Kaivalya Vohra (22) and Aadit Palicha (23), to Ashok Soota of Happiest Minds Technologies (82). Together, these 200 companies employ approximately 8 lakh individuals.The list reveals that Bengaluru maintains its position as India's leading startup ecosystem, with 52 companies, followed by Mumbai with 41 and Gurugram with 36.The ranking highlights the evolving landscape of Indian entrepreneurship, with public market performance and year-on-year valuation shifts dictating the standing of the country's most successful self-made figures.
