A woman admitted for treatment at the government hospital in Kadiri in Sri Sathya Sai district was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband on the hospital premises early on Wednesday.
The deceased, Sunitha, a resident of Maddannavaripalle in Mudigubba mandal in the district, had been married to Gangaraju from Yedulapalle village a decade ago. The couple had been living in Bengaluru while visiting Maddannavaripalle on weekends.
The Kadiri Circle police said that Gangaraju suspected his wife’s fidelity, which led to frequent quarrels between the couple. Following a fight between the two on Tuesday night, Sunitha reportedly sustained injuries and was rushed to Kadiri Government Hospital by her family members.
Around midnight, an argument broke out between Gangaraju and Sunitha’s relatives at the hospital. Around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Gangaraju allegedly returned, convinced Sunitha that he would shift her to a private hospital, and escorted her out of the ward. At the exit gate, Gangaraju allegedly stabbed her repeatedly with a knife, killing her on the spot, before fleeing from the hospital premises. The incident shocked the hospital staff and patients.
Superintendent of Police (SP) S. Satish Kumar said that special teams were formed to track down the accused.
