A total of 21,713 individuals were booked for wrong side driving during a special drive conducted by the Hyderabad Traffic Police in the first week of February 2026.
The special enforcement drive was carried out between February 2 and February 9 as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities caused by traffic violations. Wrong-side driving, officials said, has emerged as a widespread and dangerous practice in Hyderabad, leading to congestion, confusion for law-abiding motorists, and increased risk of serious accidents.
The police said motorists found driving against the direction of traffic flow were penalised under the relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Alongside enforcement, the Hyderabad Traffic Police said they are continuing to organise traffic education and awareness programmes to promote road discipline. Citizens are also being sensitised through social media platforms on the importance of responsible driving behaviour.
Appealing to motorists to strictly avoid wrong-side driving, the police urged vigilant citizens to report traffic violations through the official social media handles of the Hyderabad Traffic Police or by contacting the traffic helpline and e-challan helpdesk.
