The Hyderabad traffic police will conduct continuous special drives against motorists driving without a valid driving licence (DL) from March 1, 2026, officials said.

The advisory, issued by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, said all commuters must compulsorily carry a valid driving licence while driving and urged those without one to obtain it from the Road Transport Authority (RTA). Officials said it has been observed that a majority of road accidents involve drivers who do not possess a valid driving licence.

Vehicle owners have also been warned against allowing their vehicles to be driven by unlicenced persons, stating that permitting such driving is itself an offence under the law. The police further cautioned that in the event of an accident involving a driver without a valid licence, insurance claims would not be admissible, leading to serious financial and legal consequences.

The Hyderabad traffic police appealed to people to cooperate and strictly follow traffic rules in the interest of road safety.
