Actress Nidhi Bisht, praised for 'Maamla Legal Hai' Season 1, reveals a surprising career twist: acting offers dried up, replaced by writing calls, as many mistakenly believed she co-wrote the hit show. Bisht found it effortless to reprise her role as Advocate Sujata for the upcoming Season 2, which promises more absurd legal cases and personal character arcs.

As 'Maamla Legal Hai 2' gears up for its April 2 release on Netflix, actress and writer Nidhi Bisht has opened up about an unexpected reality she faced following the massive success of Season 1.

Despite receiving widespread praise for her portrayal of Advocate Sujata, Bisht revealed that acting offers largely did not come her way after the show with many in the industry mistakenly assuming she had also written the series.

Instead, it was writing calls that flooded her inbox. In a candid conversation ahead of the show's return, she also shared how effortlessly she slipped back into Sujata's skin and what fans can look forward to in the new season.

Drawing a comparison to student life, Bisht said, “It’s like waiting for exam results."Now, if we’ve come up a little bit with distinction [scriptwise], we can get a college admission,” reflecting her mix of excitement and nervousness ahead of the release on April 2 on Netflix.Despite returning to the show nearly a year after its first season, Bisht found it surprisingly easy to step back into her character.

She shared with Mid-day, “When we met for reading it happened very naturally. Maybe the body has it in its memory; it took me minutes to become Sujata again.” She added that even during script readings, the cast instinctively addressed each other by their on-screen identities, saying, “[During] reading the lines, we would call each other by our characters’ names.

Nidhi Bisht on getting more writing offers than acting

Reflecting on the response after the first season of ‘Maamla Legal Hai’, Bisht noted a surprising trend in the offers she received.

“As soon as the word goes out that I’m writing, the acting jobs stop coming my way. But surprisingly, after ‘Maamla Legal Hai’, I got a lot of writing calls,” she said.Bisht further clarified, “I didn’t get any offers for acting despite receiving a lot of praise. Many people thought that I had also written the show, which is not true.”

Alongside acting, Nidhi has consistently pursued writing, building credits with projects like ‘Permanent Roommates’, ‘Bisht, Please!’, and ‘Home Shanti’.

However, she pointed out that managing both roles in the industry hasn’t been easy, as perceptions often influence opportunities.
