A 23-year-old IT engineer working with a multinational company in Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park died by suicide on Monday morning after jumping from the seventh floor of his office building. The deceased, identified as Piyush Ashok Kawade, had been employed with Atlas Copco in Hinjewadi Phase One for over a year and a half. Originally from Nashik, Piyush was reportedly attending a meeting when he abruptly excused himself, citing chest pain, before proceeding to the terrace and taking the extreme step.
According to police officials, the incident took place around 10:30 am and left colleagues and staff members in shock. “He left the meeting midway, claiming chest discomfort, and minutes later jumped off the seventh floor," a senior police official said.
A handwritten suicide note was recovered at the scene. In the note, Piyush expressed deep regret and a sense of personal failure. “I have failed everywhere in life. Forgive me," he wrote, adding in a message to his father that he felt he did not deserve to be his son and apologised for his actions. The note, while emotionally charged, did not cite any work-related stress or professional issues as a reason for the suicide.
Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandre confirmed the incident and stated that further investigation is underway. “We are speaking to colleagues and reviewing CCTV footage. While the note did not mention workplace issues, we are exploring all possible angles to understand what may have triggered this act," he said.
The tragic incident has sent ripples through the Hinjewadi IT corridor, raising questions about the silent mental health struggles faced by young professionals. Police have not ruled out any possibilities and are awaiting further details from the deceased’s family and workplace.
