As the suspense over the Karnataka Chief Ministerial looms, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Friday that he had met senior Congress leaders in Delhi, but refused to provide details of the meeting.
“I have met high command leaders, but I will not say who," Shivakumar told reporters, adding, “I have not come to Delhi for leisure, I have come to meet our leaders. I cannot discuss these matters in front of the media".
The Karnataka Deputy CM, who is also the Congress co-in-charge for the Assam Assembly Election, said that he would meet senior leaders and submit a report related to the polls.
He is also scheduled to meet Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at 11:45 A.M. today to request the allocation of defence land for enhancing Bengaluru’s infrastructure.
On Reports Of Unhappiness Among Muslim Leaders
Responding to the reports of unhappiness among Muslim leaders in Karnataka, Shivakumar said, “They themselves have resigned. Check the resignation letter. You can examine whether it can be withdrawn".
The Congress in Karnataka is facing a political discord with Muslim leaders of the community, with pressure mounting for a rollback of disciplinary action against MLCs Abdul Jabbar and Naseer Ahmed, who were recently shown the door after being accused of carrying out anti-party activities during the recent by-election in Davanagere South Assembly constituency.
Rotational CM Formula?
There was a tough competition between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar for the Chief Ministerial post back in 2023, when the Congress party emerged victorious in the state assembly polls.
According to some media reports, the party’s high command picked Siddaramaiah as the CM due to his spotless image and widespread support across the state.
DK Shivakumar, on the other hand, was under investigation in connection with money laundering. Media reports also claim that the Congress high command established a “rotational Chief Minister formula", according to which Shivakumar will assume the CM post after two-and-a-half years.
Although Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar appear to be at “cold war" over the leadership in Karnataka , the formula has never been officially confirmed by the party.
