'I Think She's A Nice Person': Trump Strikes Conciliatory Tone With Italy's Meloni After Feud

Trump called Meloni a "nice person", adding that he was displeased with her due to her refusal to get involved in the Iran war.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday attempted to turn the page on a diplomatic feud with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni after landing in Turkey for the NATO Summit. Trump and Meloni’s bitter feud made headlines after the former claimed she “begged" him for a photo at last month’s G7 Summit.

During a press conference alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara, Trump was asked to clarify his “restraining order" post targeting Meloni, which prompted a sharp response from Italy as the feud escalated.

“Oh, I don’t know. I think she’s a nice person. We’ve had a good relationship, but it became a little bad because she refused to help us. I didn’t put a heavy press on her, but she refused to get involved with Iran. You can imagine I wasn’t happy with that," he said.

“It soured my relationship with her a little bit, but I like her. I think she’s a nice person. I think she made a mistake."

These remarks came after Trump took a swipe at Meloni by sharing an image on his Truth Social account carrying the caption “Restraining Order Needed." The image features Trump standing in front of Meloni, who is looking up at him smiling, with the caption suggesting she was overly interested in him.
