Shocking chats have emerged in the murder of a Bengaluru-based doctor, with alleged confession-like messages and attempts to mislead investigators pointing to a calculated cover-up by the victim’s husband.
According to the police, Dr Kruthika Reddy was allegedly killed by her husband, Mahendra Reddy, who is suspected to have administered an overdose of an anaesthetic drug to make the death appear natural.
Investigators have recovered a series of chats that they believe are crucial to the case. In one such message sent to his girlfriend, the accused allegedly instructed her to mislead authorities. He asked her not to contact him and to describe their relationship as “just friends" if questioned by police.
What Chats Reveal?
During the investigation, officials claimed that they found a deliberate attempt by the accused to influence witness statements and obstruct the probe.
In several chats that have now surfaced, investigators said that a key piece of evidence is that the accused appeared to admit to the crime. He allegedly wrote that he had killed Kruthika and would “go to jail", adding that “a killer can never be happy".
Police say the digital trail, including chats and financial app data, has helped reconstruct the sequence of events and strengthened the case against him.
“Do not message or call me after seeing this. Once things settle, I will contact you. If police ask about our relationship, say we are just friends. If they ask about repeated calls, say you had sought my help," the message stated, India Today reported.
“I will soon inform my parents and hers I have no proof, but I have killed Kruthika. I will go to jail A killer can never be happy, and I will live like one," the accused allegedly wrote, as per the report.
How Was Murder Carried Out?
According to police, Mahendra Reddy allegedly used the anaesthetic drug Propofol to kill his wife. The drug is usually used in operation theatres under strict supervision. Both Mahendra and Kruthika worked at Victoria Hospital and got married in May 2024. Less than a year later, on April 23, 2025, Kruthika collapsed at her father’s home in Marathahalli, as per the report.
Police said Mahendra had visited her and given her injections over two days, claiming they were part of her treatment. She was later declared dead at a nearby hospital, the report stated.Initially, the case was treated as a natural death. However, suspicion raised by her family led to further investigation.
A forensic report later confirmed the presence of Propofol in her body, after which the case was registered as murder and Mahendra was arrested.
More Than 10 Lakh Files Checked
The investigators have extracted a massive volume of digital data from seized devices.
Officials said more than 10.34 lakh digital files have been analysed so far, including 485 chat records from the PhonePe application, along with several deleted messages that were successfully recovered during forensic examination. Investigators believe the recovered digital trail has strengthened the case significantly and helped establish the accused’s movements, communications, and financial activity linked to the incident.
Court Rejects Bail
In a parallel legal development, the accused Mahendra Reddy suffered a setback after moving the sessions court seeking bail.
The court rejected the bail application on Tuesday, noting the gravity of the charges and the strength of the digital evidence gathered during the investigation. Legal sources said the court observed that the nature of the offence and available material evidence did not warrant granting bail at this stage.
