IIT signs pact to boost research in geology, mining

Bhubaneswar: IIT Bhubaneswar recently signed an MoU with Gujarat Mineral Research Industrial Consultancy Society (GMRICS) to strengthen long-term academic and research collaboration in geology, mining, mineral exploration and allied earth sciences.Under the five-year agreement, the two institutions will establish a strategic partnership in research, education and training, with a focus on collaborative research projects, knowledge exchange, capacity building and skill development in line with the National Education Policy-2020.As part of the collaboration, GMRICS will facilitate industrial training, internships, field-based research and hands-on exposure for IIT students.

Students will also have opportunities to pursue BSc, MSc, MTech and PhD research on topics related to mineral exploration and mining activities. GMRICS is a research society established by Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation Limited (GMDC).Int’l conference on air defenceA two-day International Conference on Air Defence and Security (ICADS-2026) at NIST University concluded on Friday. The conference was jointly organised by the Army Air Defence College and the university, bringing together experts, defence personnel, researchers and academics to deliberate on emerging challenges and technological advancements in air defence and security.

Organisers said the conference received more than 350 abstracts from researchers across institutions and industry, of which 57 were accepted for publication in the IEEE conference proceedings.RIMS organises graduation dayRourkela Institute of Management Studies (RIMS) celebrated its ‘graduation day’ and ‘performers’ day’ recently. Vice-chancellor of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Amiya Kumar Rath, conferred graduation certificates on around 60 students. At least 25 students were felicitated for their outstanding academic and non-academic achievements. Secretary of RIMS, Arya Patnaik, appreciated VC Rath for ensuring that university examination results were declared within two days.
