The eye examination of former Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan has started in Adiala Jail, according to sources.
The move comes after a medical report submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan alleged that Khan has suffered irreversible vision loss in his right eye due to “institutionalised medical neglect".
The seven-page report detailed a systematic denial of healthcare that began in late 2025. According to the document, Khan possessed perfect 6/6 vision in both eyes until October 2025. Shortly thereafter, he began reporting “persistent blurred and hazy vision" to the then-Jail Superintendent of Adiala Jail to no avail.
“The medical team is at the Adiala Jail with all necessary medical equipment. All arrangements for the former Prime Minister’s full medical check-up are complete," said sources.
The team of doctors has brought various medical tools and medicines with them. A detailed eye check-up is currently underway under the supervision of a medical board. The medical exam is being conducted under strict security. The medical team’s report is expected to be prepared soon.
Responding to the reports of Khan’s deteriorating condition, former Pakistan cricketers Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis have urged authorities to ensure he receives proper medical care in custody. “It is heartbreaking to hear our skipper Imran Khan going through health issues," Wasim wrote on X, where he has often credited Imran as the biggest influence on his career. “I sincerely hope the authorities take this seriously and ensure he receives the best possible medical care. Wishing him strength, a speedy recovery, and a full return to good health."
Waqar echoed similar sentiments soon after. “Putting politics aside, our national hero who gave us our greatest glory on the sporting field, and built a cancer hospital that helped so many — including my own mother — is facing a health emergency and requires urgent treatment. I humbly request that the concerned authorities to ensure he gets appropriate care in time. Get well soon, skipper," he posted.
News18 had earlier reported that Khan may soon be shifted from Adiala Jail to a hospital in Islamabad for medical tests and specialised eye treatment. Among the facilities under consideration are Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences, and the government-run Federal Government Polyclinic Hospital.
Imran was arrested in August 2023 and has since received multiple prison sentences on various charges, which he and his supporters maintain are politically motivated.
