The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday targeted the Congress and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy over his remarks against its national president, Nitin Nabin. The party called the comments “objectionable“, saying they reflected the “culture of the Congress“.
The reaction came after Telangana CM Reddy reportedly junked Nabin’s call to the BJP workers to aim for victory in the 2028 state assembly elections, expressing confidence that the Congress would “crush the BJP" in the state.
“Recently, a guy came here, Nabin or whatever, I don’t really know his name. But he comes here and says the next government is theirs," Reddy said, according to India Today.
“You said the same thing about West Bengal. It took you 15 years (to form a government) in Bengal. Your tricks might have worked there because Mamata Banerjee was at the helm. But here, all our guys are ready, and they will crush you", he added.
‘India Has A Crush Of BJP’
Training guns at Revanth Reddy, BJP’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra said: “Revanth Reddy ji, let me state this clearly without mincing words that you may try your best to crush the Bharatiya Janata Party, but the people of India have a crush on the BJP. You can’t do anything", India Today reported.
Referring to the BJP’s historic victory in West Bengal, Patra said people had done “khela" in the state, and that a similar “khela" would happen in Telangana, too.
“Revanth Reddy, you are the chief minister of a state in India. You are a member of Congress, a well-known party. Do you know who the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), India’s largest political party, is? If you do not know the president of the BJP, India’s largest political party, then I feel you are not a competent political worker", the BJP leader said.
Targeting Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Mamata Banerjee, Patra added: “Just recall the fate of those who have engaged in such mockery. Mamata Banerjee made a similar joke about Amit Shah".
Nitin Nabin, the newly-elected national president of the BJP, recently sounded poll bugle in Telangana, and declared that the party form a “double-engine government" in the state in 2028. He also expressed optimism that the BJP would expand its base under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi.
