India and Italy have officially upgraded their bilateral relations to a special strategic partnership, marking a significant milestone in their diplomatic ties. The two nations announced the Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025 to 2029, designed to provide a practical framework for future cooperation. Key focus areas include boosting bilateral trade towards a twenty billion euro target and enhancing collaboration across sectors such as artificial intelligence, space, and civil nuclear energy. The partnership also emphasizes defence co-development and maritime connectivity, with plans to work on shipping and port modernization. Furthermore, both countries agreed to initiate joint projects in Africa and reiterated their shared commitment to combating terror financing. Addressing global tensions, including those in Ukraine and West Asia, the nations advocated for dialogue and diplomacy. To commemorate the eightieth anniversary of their diplomatic relations next year, India and Italy will celebrate a Year of Culture, further strengthening their historical and cultural connections.
