Indian women’s football team midfielder Soumya Guguloth successfully underwent surgery for a nasal bone fracture sustained during her team’s AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers victory over Timor-Leste.
The 24-year-old is currently recovering at the team hotel.
Despite Soumya testing the Timor-Leste defence multiple times in the second half, she was unable to convert the opportunities into goals. India triumphed 4-0 in the group match, securing their second consecutive victory on Sunday.
“Soumya Guguloth sustained a nasal bone fracture during the second half of yesterday’s match against Timor-Leste. She was taken to the hospital immediately and successfully underwent surgery last night. She has since been discharged and is now back at the team hotel. Wishing our star a speedy and smooth recovery!," the All India Football Federation (AIFF) stated in a medical update on ‘X’ on Monday.

In a dominant performance, winger Manisha Kalyan scored a brace (12th, 80th), while Anju Tamang (58th) and Lynda Kom Serto (86th) also netted goals as India controlled the match from start to finish at the 700th Anniversary Stadium.
With this victory, India now leads Group B with six points from two games, ahead of Thailand, also on six points, due to a better goal difference. Iraq is third with four points.
India will next face Iraq on Wednesday, followed by their match against Thailand on Saturday at the same venue.
Who India Beat Timor Leste?
India continued their momentum from the previous match against Mongolia, pressing high and creating chances with dynamic wing play. In the sixth minute, Tamang’s attempt was blocked by Timor-Leste goalkeeper Gorette Da Costa. However, India soon broke through.
A combination between Manisha and Tamang unlocked Timor-Leste’s defence. Tamang’s well-timed pass set up Manisha, who used her speed to beat her marker and scored with a powerful left-footed shot. This early goal allowed India to control the game, dominating possession and constantly seeking openings.
Pyari Xaxa nearly doubled the lead, hitting the woodwork, while Soumya Guguloth’s shot was saved by Da Costa. Timor-Leste, offering little offensively, focused on defence but couldn’t disrupt India’s rhythm, ending the first half 1-0.
In the second half, India intensified their efforts. Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Sanju’s cross caused confusion in Timor-Leste’s box, allowing Tamang to score from close range. Manisha then added a third with a powerful shot after receiving a clever pass from Tamang.
India’s fourth goal showcased excellent teamwork. Substitutes Lynda Kom and Grace Dangmei combined to break through the defence, with Grace setting up Lynda to calmly finish and seal the 4-0 victory.
