India on February 6 successfully test-fired the intermediate-range ballistic missile Agni-3 from the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha, validating all operational and technical parameters, officials said.

The launch was conducted under the aegis of the Strategic Forces Command, which oversees the country’s strategic nuclear assets.

Agni-3 is a nuclear-capable intermediate-range ballistic missile with a strike range of approximately 3,000 to 3,500 kilometres, enabling India to cover strategic targets deep inside adversary territory. Defence officials said the successful test reaffirmed the reliability and readiness of the missile system.

Although other missiles from the Agni series, including upgraded variants, have been test-fired in recent times, Agni-3 continues to hold strategic importance as a proven pillar of India’s deterrence capability.

The missile is a two-stage system powered by solid fuel. After the first stage completes its burn, the second stage ignites to propel the missile further along its trajectory toward the intended target, ensuring stability and accuracy.

The successful test adds to India’s growing list of validated strategic missile systems and underscores the country’s continued focus on maintaining a credible minimum deterrent.
