Indian Classical Music Festival Returns To Bengaluru With ‘Purana Gitam’ Theme

The festival seeks to bring alive stories of divinity, pilgrimage, ethics and moral wisdom that have shaped India’s cultural consciousness for centuries.

Bharatiya Samagana Sabha has announced the 17th edition of its annual Indian Classical Music Festival, titled “Purana Gitam: A Musical Journey of Devotion", to be held from 5 to 8 February 2026 at the iconic Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Bengaluru. Over four evenings, the festival promises an immersive exploration of India’s sacred musical and spiritual heritage through thoughtfully curated Carnatic performances.

The theme Purana Gitam draws inspiration from the ancient Puranas, texts that serve as a vital link between Vedic philosophy and the living Bhakti tradition. Through classical music, narrative interpretation and devotion, the festival seeks to bring alive stories of divinity, pilgrimage, ethics and moral wisdom that have shaped India’s cultural consciousness for centuries.

The festival will be presided over by Vid. Dr RS Nanda Kumar, D Litt, a senior and respected exponent of Karnataka music, who will serve as the Festival President. Each day will feature distinguished artistes presenting thematic concerts aligned with the overarching concept of Purana-based musical storytelling.

The Chief Guest for the festival will be Prof (Dr) R Venkata Rao, Vice Chancellor, India International University of Legal Education and Research (IIULER), Goa. He will grace the award ceremony on 7 February.

The opening day, 5 February, will see vocal performances by Dhanya Dinesh Rudrapatnam and Sivasri Skandaprasad. On 6 February, audiences can look forward to a Carnatic vocal duet by Archana and Samanvi, followed by a concert by Sandeep Narayan. The 7 February evening will include a special Award Ceremony, followed by a vocal recital by Harisankar KS The concluding day, 8 February, will feature a classical ensemble by the Apoorva Krishna team, culminating in a grand vocal duet by Ranjani and Gayatri.

With its blend of scholarship, devotion and artistic excellence, Purana Gitam aims to reaffirm classical music’s role as a living, breathing expression of India’s spiritual traditions.
