An Indian LNG tanker passed through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday, appearing to have become one of the first major commercial vessels to transit the critically vital route following the announcement of a ceasefire agreement involving the United States and Iran.

The tanker named Disha sailed through the crucial waterway and is currently bound for Dahej Port in Gujarat, where it is expected to arrive on June 18.

The transit took place even before the formal reopening of the strait, which US President Donald Trump said would coincide with the signing of a peace agreement with Iran later this week. The vessel reportedly kept its Automatic Identification System (AIS) active throughout the voyage, broadcasting details about its location, course and destination. According to reports, the AIS signal also identified the ship as being affiliated with the Government of India.

Notably, Disha followed the standard commercial shipping route used before hostilities disrupted maritime traffic in the region. It did not use the alternative transit corridors established by Iran and the US during the conflict, a move some observers say could indicate tacit approval from Iranian authorities.

The tanker measures approximately 277 metres in length with a beam of 44 metres. According to a Bloomberg News report, the vessel had remained stranded in the Persian Gulf for more than three months before resuming its journey.
