Being a doctor is an aspiration for many in India. But medical school can be prohibitively expensive. One 22-year-old medical student, aspiring to be an orthopaedic surgeon, however, found a workaround—using an AI-generated woman avatar to gather greenbacks from "super dumb" American MAGA men.

According to a report by the US-based news outlet WIRED, the 22-year-old Indian medical student made thousands of dollars running a fake, AI-generated pro-Trump influencer account.

The individual in question, who identified himself with the pseudonym "Sam", told WIRED that despite financial support from his parents, he was in dire straits after subsidising his "licencing" exams.

At first, Sam tried to make money through various means, including YouTube Shorts and selling medical study notes to fellow students. But nothing really paid off.

MEDICAL STUDENT GOT AI WOMAN IDEA FROM AN AI CHATBOT

Then the 22-year-old Indian medical student landed on a more lucrative idea: "Why not make an AI-generated girl and sell bikini photos of her online?"

According to the WIRED report, his initial attempts went nowhere. But after consulting an AI chatbot, Sam was told that creating a generic model meant "competing with a million other models".

Instead, the chatbot suggested targeting what it called the "MAGA/conservative niche," describing it as a "cheat code" and noting that such audiences "often have higher disposable income and [are] more loyal."

INDIAN MEDICAL STUDENT CREATED JENNIFER LAWRENCE AI LOOKALIKE

Taking the advice to heart, in January this year, Sam created "Emily Hart," a fictional blonde nurse with a passing resemblance to Hollywood actress Jennifer Lawrence.

He told WIRED that he set up an Instagram account for the fake influencer and populated it with AI-generated images of Hart doing what he thought the MAGA crowd would like—ice fishing, drinking Coors Light, and shooting at a rifle range.

As the saying goes, as American as apple pie.

The images were paired with provocative captions.

"If you want a reason to unfollow: Christ is king, abortion is murder, and all illegals must be deported," read one post. Another said: "POV: You were assigned intelligent at birth, but you identify as liberal."

Though Sam has not spent even a day in the US, he nevertheless immersed himself in MAGA ideology. "Every day I'd write something pro-Christian, pro-Second Amendment, pro-life, anti-abortion, anti-woke, and anti-immigration," he told WIRED.

AI REELS ON INSTAGRAM GOT MILLIONS OF VIEWS

The formula worked almost immediately. "Every Reel I posted was getting 3 million views, 5 million views, 10 million views. The algorithm loved it," Sam said. Within weeks, the account had amassed over 10,000 followers.

Many were funnelled to subscription-based platforms such as Fanvue, where Sam sold exclusive AI-generated soft-core content. Others purchased merchandise carrying MAGA-themed slogans—one reading "PTSD: Pretty Tired of Stupid Democrats," according to WIRED.

Sam told WIRED he was making thousands of dollars through Emily Hart.

"I was spending maybe 30 to 50 minutes of my day, and I was making good money for a medical student," he said. "In India, even in professional jobs, you can’t make this amount of money. I haven’t seen any easier way to make money online."

According to WIRED, "Emily Hart" is far from an isolated case. Social media platforms are increasingly populated by AI-generated "MAGA influencers," typically depicted as white, often blonde women posing as nurses, police officers, or other first responders. Their content blends sexualised imagery with hardline political messaging on immigration, religion, and culture-war issues.

For instance, another AI-generated influencer named "Jessica Foster", portrayed as a US Army soldier alongside US President Donald Trump (with some soft-core content sprinkled in for good measure), went viral among MAGA audiences, amassing a million followers on Instagram, reported The Washington Post.

ARE DEMOCRATS SMARTER THAN REPUBLICANS? AI SLOP LIKELY HAS AN ANSWER

Sam told WIRED he had also created a left-wing counterpart to Emily on Instagram to target liberal audiences, but that account failed to take off. "Democrats know that it's AI slop, so they don’t engage as much."

In contrast, Emily Hart succeeded because, according to Sam, "The MAGA crowd is made up of dumb people—like, super dumb people. And they fall for it."

The operation extended into explicit content. Using AI tools, Sam generated nude images of the fictional influencer and sold them to paying subscribers.

"I was basically doing nothing, and it was just flooded with money," he said, though he admitted some user interactions were "incredibly weird."

Sam, for his part, insists he has "no regrets."

"I don't feel like I was scamming people," he told WIRED, arguing that his audience received the content they wanted.

The customer, after all, is always right in matters of taste.

Sam's AI influencer account was eventually banned from Instagram in February, but not before he made a substantial sum. He has since stepped away from the scheme and told WIRED he now plans to focus on his studies—and actually become a doctor.
