Navitaire Glitch Impacts Hundreds of Passengers, No Major Flight Delays (Representative Image)
A global Navitaire outage briefly disrupted operations for airlines including IndiGo and Akasa Air on Thursday morning. Systems were restored within about 30 minutes, and no major flight delays were reported. The platform, used for reservations, check-ins, and departure control, was first affected in the Asia-Pacific region and later impacted some European carriers.
At major airports, including Indira Gandhi International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, the brief technical fault affected hundreds of passengers, causing temporary disruptions in flight operations.
At Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, the fault appeared around 6:45 am and was resolved by 7:30 am. Airlines were forced to manage passenger details manually, causing long queues during the early morning rush. Carriers including IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express were affected.
Sources said IndiGo restored its systems within about 25 minutes, while Navitaire was fully restored by 8:25 am.
A similar disruption occurred at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, where passengers faced delays and crowding at check-in counters.
What is Navitaire?
Navitaire is a leading technology provider for low-cost and hybrid airlines and rail operators, offering a comprehensive Passenger Service System (PSS) as a wholly owned subsidiary of Amadeus IT Group.
Navitaire provides essential technology for reservations, check-ins, and boarding. When it fails, airlines cannot process passengers efficiently, leading to congestion and delays.
Top users of Navitaire’s New Skies PSS include Ryanair (Ireland), IndiGo (India) and Spirit Airlines (US). In Europe and the Asia-Pacific, key users are Wizz Air, Jetstar, AirAsia (renewed to 2028), HK Express, Norse Atlantic Airways, and Volaris. In the Americas, Azul Brazilian Airlines uses the system.
The incident recalled a major 2025 November disruption at Delhi airport that delayed over 800 flights. Delhi handles over 1,500 daily flight movements, while Mumbai manages around 1,000.
