UP congress president spoke to reporters on Tuesday

Lucknow: UP Congress president Ajay Rai has alleged that internal conflicts within the BJP were adversely affecting governance and development in the state.“There is a growing dissent within the BJP over chief minister Yogi Adityanath,” Rai told reporters on Tuesday claiming that his absence from the party’s foundation day event speaks for widening cracks within the governing party. He said despite being in the state, the chief minister neither attended the programme nor was connected virtually, even as other senior leaders participated.“This clearly indicates that dissatisfaction regarding the chief minister has reached a peak within the BJP and is now visible in public events,” Rai claimed. He further alleged govt was failing to deliver on key promises made during the 2022 assembly elections, including employment generation, doubling farmers’ income and improving law and order.Targeting govt on law enforcement, Rai cited incidents of alleged police action against youths in Prayagraj and Lucknow and claimed that candidates linked to the 69,000 teacher recruitment process continue to face uncertainty. He also flagged issues related to contractual workers associated with the CM helpline and criticised what he termed as “bulldozer-driven governance”, alleging it has created an atmosphere of fear among citizens.

Rai also raised concerns over the condition of stray cattle, referring to a purported incident from Varanasi. He alleged that cow protection claims of govt do not match the ground reality. The Congress leader maintained that the BJP has failed to meet public expectations despite being in power for nearly a decade, and said people now feel “disillusioned”.He also announced that the party would organise an advocates’ conference on the birth anniversary of social reformer Jyotirao Phule in which senior leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi and former Union minister Salman Khurshid, are expected to participate.
