New Delhi: After many rumors and leaks, Apple is now all set to unveil its iPhone 18 Pro very soon. However, Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro is going to arrive soon with major changes in cameras. Apple has started planning to unveil the variable aperture camera system on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. This update is also expected to rise in component costs, which might eventually lead to a higher retail price for the devices.
Apple might be going to replace the fixed f/1.7 aperture currently used on the recent iPhone Pro models with the variable aperture system. This might enable the camera to adjust the amount of light entering the sensor depending on the scene and lighting conditions.
Variable aperture technology is commonly seen in professional cameras, and it has appeared on a few Android devices in the past. This latest feature might help to improve the depth control, low-light photography, and exposure management.
In some reports, it has been reported that Apple has ordered some of the latest lens components. The updated camera module is stated to cost nearly 50% more than the one expected to be used in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Higher production costs might create more pressure on Apple’s pricing strategy.
Apple is also trying to ignore increasing iPhone prices in order to maintain market share, but expensive components and rising industry-wide hardware costs might make that difficult. Apple would absorb several of the additional costs rather than passing the entire increase to customers. There is still speculation that at least the Pro models might become more expensive compared to the iPhone 17 Pro series.
The company is also planning another major camera redesign for future iPhones. It might feature a redesigned ultra-wide camera module by using chip-on-board packaging technology. This change might help Apple to make camera components thinner while improving internal space management. Apple has not yet confirmed any details related to the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
