NEW DELHI: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have made a key change to their squad for IPL 2026 by bringing in South African all-rounder George Linde as a replacement for Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga. Hasaranga, aged 28, has been ruled out of the tournament due to a hamstring injury he suffered during Sri Lanka’s opening match in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup.The franchise had earlier hinted at this move, with LSG’s Director of Cricket Tom Moody saying, “We are preparing for the fact that he isn't going to be able to join us. We are looking at replacements, that should be announced in 24-48 hours.”

34-year-old Linde, a left-handed batter and slow left-arm spinner, will be playing in the IPL for the first time. He brings plenty of experience, having represented South Africa across formats and played in several T20 leagues worldwide. In 37 T20 international matches, he has scored over 400 runs and taken 35 wickets, showing his value as a useful all-rounder.Though his recent form has been modest, including a quiet series against New Zealand, his overall record remains strong, with more than 200 wickets in T20 cricket. LSG have signed him at his base price, hoping he can add balance and depth to the squad. With captain
Rishabh Pant
leading the side, LSG will aim to make the most of this change as they continue their campaign. The team is coming off a close win and will next face Gujarat Titans at their home ground in Lucknow. Linde’s inclusion could give them more options with both bat and ball as they push forward in the tournament.
