The Indian Premier League (IPL) is the most popular T20 league in the world. The first match played on April 18, 2008, at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru featured Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in which KKR defeated RCB by 140 runs, highlighted by Brendon McCullum’s explosive 158* off 73 balls.

are the most successful teams in IPL history, with five titles each in 18 seasons. Mumbai Indians were the first to reach this milestone, while CSK hold the record for most final appearances (10).

Chennai Super Kings were the first team to win back-to-back IPL titles, achieving the feat in 2010 and 2011. They reached another final in 2012 but lost to Kolkata Knight Riders. Mumbai Indians later followed this trend, winning consecutive titles in 2019 and 2020, and also became the first team to secure five IPL trophies, until CSK equalled the record in 2023.Since their 2020 triumph, Mumbai Indians have not reached an IPL final. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings failed to qualify for the playoffs in the last two seasons, marking the first time in IPL history that they have missed out in consecutive editions. Royal Challengers Bengaluru remain one of the most popular franchises alongside CSK and MI.
