Authorities in Dubai have issued a public warning to residents and social media influencers, urging them not to film, record or share videos of security-sensitive incidents such as explosions, anti-aircraft fire or missile interceptions amid the escalating Iran-Israel conflict.

The advisory comes as heightened regional tensions have led to increased air defence activity across parts of the Gulf, with missile interceptions and related smoke trails occasionally visible in the night sky. Officials stressed that footage of such incidents, including anti-aircraft fire, interception systems in action, or resulting smoke and debris, must not be posted on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram or X.

Security officials said the directive is precautionary, aimed at preventing sensitive material from being circulated during a period of instability. Sharing real-time videos of defensive activity, they warned, could unintentionally assist hostile actors, fuel misinformation, or spark unnecessary panic among the public.

“This is not about casual photography," a source familiar with the guidance said. “It specifically concerns content that could compromise security operations or create alarm during an already tense regional situation."

The warning reflects concerns that Dubai—a major international aviation and business hub—could face heightened risk perceptions for the first time amid the broader Iran-Israel confrontation. Authorities appear keen to avoid scenarios where unverified footage spreads rapidly online, potentially distorting the scale or nature of events.

Under the UAE’s cybercrime and national security laws, publishing material deemed harmful to public safety or state security can carry severe penalties. Violations may result in substantial fines, legal prosecution, and deportation for expatriates.

Officials have urged residents to report suspicious activity or safety concerns directly to the appropriate authorities rather than posting videos or commentary online.

The move underscores how governments across the region are tightening information controls as the Iran-Israel conflict reverberates beyond the immediate theatres of fighting, affecting aviation, security protocols and public communication strategies.
