Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) seized a vessel suspected of links to the United States military, according to a report by the semi-official Tasnim news agency, in a move likely to heighten tensions in the region.

The IRGC said the ship, identified as Epaminodes, was detained after it “ignored warnings and committed violations." In a statement, the force alleged that the vessel had engaged in activities deemed suspicious and failed to comply with directives issued by Iranian authorities.

“The ship, suspected of collaborating with the US military, was detained for committing violations," the IRGC said, without elaborating on the exact nature of the alleged breaches. Follow for live updates

Vessel Made Multiple Trips To US Ports, IRGC Claims

Iran’s elite force further claimed that the vessel had made “multiple trips to US ports" over the past six months, suggesting a pattern of activity it considers questionable amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington.

“Through the intelligence monitoring and surveillance by the IRGC Navy over the past six months, this ship has made multiple trips to U.S. ports and was seized by the IRGC Navy due to ignoring warnings and numerous maritime violations," the statement read.

No immediate response was reported from US officials or independent maritime authorities, and key details such as the ship’s flag, ownership, and crew nationality remain unclear.

The incident comes against the backdrop of strained relations between Iran and the United States, particularly in the Gulf region, where vital shipping lanes have frequently been the focus of military and security confrontations.
