Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday said Tehran would honour its commitments under the agreement with the United States if Washington fulfilled its obligations, describing “mutual understanding" as a two-way process.

In a post on X, Pezeshkian wrote, “Mutual understanding is a two-way street. If the American side adheres to the agreement, we will also fulfill our commitments."

He also said Iran would respond firmly to what he described as threats, adding, “Our approach to unreasonable saber-rattling and baseless threats is to rely on rationality and human dignity in decision-making, and to defend decisively and fearlessly when it comes time to act."

Pezeshkian’s remarks come amid efforts by Washington and Tehran to implement a memorandum of understanding reached after weeks of heightened tensions in the region.

While United States President Donald Trump has repeatedly said a meeting with Iranian representatives would take place in Doha to discuss the “denuclearisation" of Iran, Tehran has maintained that no talks with US officials are currently scheduled.

“There’ll be a meeting on that tomorrow in Doha, and they’re going to Qatar. They’re — I think they’ve already left, or they’re just about getting ready to leave. So we’ll see how that goes. But we’re doing very well on that front. The meeting in Doha is going to be perhaps important, perhaps not. We’re going to find out. But we’re winning militarily. It’s almost won militarily, I would say," Trump said in his latest press meet.

Iranian officials have said their delegation’s visit to Qatar is only to follow up on the implementation of the memorandum and is unrelated to any negotiations with Washington.

“No talks between Iran and the United States are scheduled in the coming days," Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said.

According to the foreign ministry, the delegation heading to Doha will focus on “implementing the provisions of the memorandum of understanding" and will not hold discussions with US representatives, Iran’s IRNA news agency reported.

The ministry added that the visit by US officials to Qatar “has no connection to the visit of the Iranian delegation."

Hours before, Iran held its first talks with Oman on managing the Strait of Hormuz since the US-Iran agreement was signed, and amid an ongoing pause in hostilities between Washington and Tehran.
