Gervonta Davis is once again dealing with serious legal trouble, and this time the situation could directly affect both his freedom and his boxing future. Authorities in Maryland are actively seeking Davis after a judge issued an arrest warrant connected to an alleged probation violation.

The latest development comes months after the unbeaten boxer was arrested in Florida following accusations tied to an incident at a Miami strip club involving his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel. The timing has only intensified attention around Davis. The 31-year-old remains one of boxing’s biggest attractions, but his career has stalled during an extended layoff that now stretches beyond a year. With legal issues piling up and an active warrant still in place, uncertainty continues to surround both his personal situation and his future inside the ring.

The warrant stems from Davis allegedly violating probation connected to a 2020 Baltimore hit-and-run case that injured four people. Court records show Davis has remained under probation supervision for more than three years, partly because of previous violations, as reported by ESPN.

The latest issue traces back to Oct. 27, 2025, when Davis was accused of attacking Rossel at Tootsie’s Cabaret in Miami Gardens, where she worked as a VIP cocktail server.

According to allegations included in court filings, Rossel claimed Davis grabbed her by the neck and moved her through the club against her will before she escaped. Surveillance footage reportedly captured portions of the incident.Davis was arrested in Florida on Jan. 14 and initially faced charges including battery, false imprisonment, and attempted kidnapping. While the false imprisonment charge was later dropped, the battery and attempted kidnapping charges remain active.A Maryland judge first issued a probation violation warrant on Feb. 2. Davis’ attorneys successfully argued that he was cooperating with law enforcement, leading to the warrant being recalled days later. But the situation changed again on April 24 when Circuit Judge Althea M. Handy issued another warrant. This time, a second motion from Davis’ legal team seeking to recall it was denied on May 22.According to court records, the warrant remains active, and Davis could be held without bond if arrested.

Gervonta Davis’ boxing future now faces uncertainty

The legal situation arrives during an already difficult stretch for Davis professionally. His scheduled exhibition bout with Jake Paul was canceled shortly after Rossel filed her lawsuit, and he has not fought since his controversial majority draw against Lamont Roach Jr. in March 2025.Even with the uncertainty, Davis still holds the WBA lightweight title and has reportedly been ordered by the World Boxing Association to face Floyd Schofield. Whether that fight moves forward may now depend on how quickly his legal matters are resolved.Davis has been one of boxing’s most recognizable stars, carrying a 30-0-1 record with 28 knockouts. But the longer these issues continue, the more complicated his return to the sport becomes.
