As the war is West Asia continues to intensify with both sides being relentless in their pursuit of attacking each other, a senior Israeli defense official said on Saturday that Israel is preparing to attack Iranian energy facilities but is awaiting a green light from the United States. He said that any such attacks would likely come within the next week.

The comments came after US President Donald Trump issued a 48-hour ultimatum, sharpening focus on whether Washington would back further Israeli military action against Iran.

Pertinent to note that Iran shooting down two US military aircraft marks the first such combat loss for the United States in over two decades, highlighting Tehran’s ability to strike back despite claims by Donald Trump that its military has been “completely decimated."

The incidents come five weeks after US and Israeli forces launched strikes on Iran, with Trump earlier saying the country’s ability to fire missiles and drones had been sharply reduced.

According to US officials, an Iranian strike brought down an F-15E fighter jet on Friday. One service member was rescued, while another remains missing. Iranian state media also reported that an A-10 attack aircraft crashed after being hit by its air defences.

Iran shooting down two American military jets marks an exceedingly rare assault for the U.S. that has not happened in more than 20 years and shows the Islamic Republic’s continued ability to hit back despite President Donald Trump asserting it has been “completely decimated."

The attacks came five weeks after U.S. and Israeli strikes first pounded Iran, with Trump saying earlier this week that Tehran’s “ability to launch missiles and drones is dramatically curtailed."
