An Egyptian Committee official who was helping organise public screenings of FIFA World Cup matches for displaced families in Gaza was killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza City’s al-Sabra neighbourhood on Tuesday.
Mohamed Fawaz al-Wahidi, also known as Abu Suhaib, was the director of the Office of Mukhtars and Community Elders at the Egyptian Committee for the Relief of the People of the Gaza Strip, Drop Site reported.
The committee confirmed his death, saying he was killed when an Israeli strike hit a civilian vehicle near the governorate building.
The strike reportedly took place about an hour before Egypt’s World Cup match began. The committee had been arranging public screenings of matches for displaced families across Gaza.
Two other Palestinians, including a child, were also reported killed in the strike, with several others injured.
