Chief Justice of India Bhushan Gavai on Sunday revisited his alma mater, Chikitsak Samuh Shirodkar School in Mumbai, where he studied from primary through secondary school. During his visit to the Marathi-medium institution, he underlined the significance of studying in one’s mother tongue, saying it not only improves conceptual clarity but also imparts lasting values.

CJI Gavai fondly recounted his early years at the school. During the tour, he visited the classrooms, library, and art section, warmly reconnecting with former classmates and teachers.

An official statement from the event acknowledged his profound gratitude to the teachers who shaped his early years.

“Whatever position I have reached today, my teachers and this school have played a significant role in it. The education and values I received here gave direction to my life. My journey in public speaking began on this very stage. Through speech competitions and cultural programs, I gained confidence. It is because of those opportunities that I am what I am today," the CJI said.

Reflecting on his experience of studying in Marathi, Justice Gavai reiterated the importance of getting educated in one’s mother tongue, noting that it fosters a deeper understanding of concepts and builds a solid moral base.

The visit concluded with an emotional tribute from the current students that left the CJI visibly moved. The heartfelt tribute made the CJI feel proud and deeply emotional, the release stated.
