Aaron Judge did not hide his feelings about the Yankees’ early offseason. As other contenders made quick moves, New York stayed quiet, and that tested the captain’s patience. For a team built on winning, the slow start felt uncomfortable.
Judge wanted urgency from the start.“It was brutal,” Judge said when asked about the waiting period. He admitted it was hard watching other teams improve while the Yankees made smaller moves. The delay stood out to him. He expected faster action.
Aaron Judge says frustration came from championship standards
Judge explained what was going through his mind as he tracked free agency. “I see a lot of free agents out there. I see a lot of guys like the Bellingers, the Grishams, the Goldschmidts.
Let's sign these guys right now and then start adding more pieces. I'm seeing other teams around the league get better. They're making trades, they're signing big prospects or big players and we kind of were sitting there for a while, kind of making smaller moves.
”He also shared how that stretch felt personally. “But early on, it was pretty tough to watch. I'm like, 'man, we're the New York Yankees, let's go out there and get the right people, get the right pieces to go out there and finish this thing off.
We've got a special group of players here. We've got a good core, good young core. It was frustrating, but I think we're right where we need to be.”Judge made it clear his frustration was about standards, not doubt. He believes in the roster and the young core. His focus is simple. The Yankees must always move with purpose when chasing a title. As the offseason progressed and key pieces were added, the mood shifted. The return of important players and the addition of experienced talent helped settle concerns inside the clubhouse.
Judge’s tone now reflects confidence rather than frustration. He sees balance in the lineup and stability in key positions. More importantly, he believes the front office responded when it mattered most. For a captain who carries the weight of expectations, that reassurance is critical. His message to fans is clear. The goal has not changed. The Yankees are built to compete, and he expects them to finish the job this season.
