J&K, Himachal And Punjab Floods Live Update:  Heavy rain crippled life across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, causing floods, landslides and roadblocks. Jammu recorded 190.4 mm of rainfall in 24 hours, the second-highest in a century after 228.6 mm in 1926. Udhampur and Katra received 144.2 mm and 115 mm respectively. In Himachal Pradesh, continuous rainfall since Sunday night triggered landslides and swollen rivers, disrupting connectivity. Schools and colleges were closed in nine districts, including Shimla, Mandi, Solan, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kangra, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti.

Students rescued & schools shut: Nearly 50 students of the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine in Jammu were rescued after floodwaters submerged their hostel. SDRF and police used boats in a five-hour operation to evacuate them from over seven-foot-deep water. The J&K Board of School Education cancelled Class 10 and 11 exams across J&K and Ladakh. The School Education Department also ordered the closure of all government and private schools in Jammu province on Monday.

IMD alerts for the region: The IMD issued a red alert for Chamba and Kangra, an orange alert for Kullu and Mandi, and a yellow alert for Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Una. In J&K, an orange alert was sounded for several districts, including Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Reasi, Ramban, Rajouri and Poonch, with rain forecast until August 26.
