Mumbai Crime Branch has arrested a woman cricketer linked to the Jammu and Kashmir T20 League, her brother, and an associate in an alleged sextortion and extortion case involving a Mumbai-based businessman, officials said on Thursday.
The accused, 30-year-old Farkhanda Khan and her brother Bazil Khan (27), were arrested from a hotel in New Delhi. Their associate, 22-year-old Uddin Imtiyaz Wani, was later arrested from Srinagar.
According to the Crime Branch, the complainant is a 28-year-old businessman residing in Colaba. He came in contact with Farkhanda Khan in 2024 while living in Mumbai's western suburbs. What began as a conversation over mobile chats allegedly escalated into explicit exchanges initiated by the accused.
Police said Farkhanda later introduced the complainant to her brother and Wani. In 2024, she allegedly sought money citing financial distress. When the complainant refused, she threatened to make their private chats public.
Under pressure, the complainant allegedly transferred Rs 23.61 lakh to Farkhanda's bank account through 32 transactions between April 30, 2024, and January 13, 2026.
Officials found that a significant portion of the funds was routed to Wani's account. Some transactions were also traced to the bank account of Farkhanda's father, Abdul Aziz Khan.
Police further alleged that Imtiyaz and Bazil Khan also threatened the complainant, claiming they possessed screenshots of his chats with Farkhanda Khan and warning him of serious consequences, including possible imprisonment.
Following these threats, the complainant allegedly transferred an additional Rs 40 lakh in January 2026. The first transaction in the case dates back to April 2024, when Rs 20,000 was transferred.
Farkhanda Khan is a resident of Ankur Vihar in Delhi NCR, while Wani hails from Khalapur in Jammu and Kashmir, and Bazil Khan from Noorkhaw village in the Union Territory.
Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
