Notorious dacoit Jagan Gurjar's brother has levelled serious allegations against jail officials and cops, claiming that the former Chambal bandit was murdered as part of a well-planned conspiracy, disputing the official version that his brother was killed single-handedly by his cellmate.
Pappu Gurjar, who was lodged in the same high-security jail in Ajmer, alleged that as many as eight people, including the jailer, deputy jailer, multiple police personnel, inmates, and a doctor were involved in the killing.
He claimed that his brother was administered sedative pills before being strangled, and that attempts were later made to pass off the death as a suicide. Pappu made the claims while attending Jagan's cremation in Rajasthan's Dholpur district on Wednesday.
The dreaded dacoit's body was brought from Ajmer following a post-mortem examination conducted on Tuesday night. Citing his uncle, Jagan's son, Asaram, said that the brothers were lodged in the same barracks inside the Ajmer jail, but were shifted to different barracks a day before the murder.
According to him, Pappu further claimed that when an attempt to hang the body from a ceiling fan failed, superficial marks were created to mislead forensic experts.
The family has demanded that Pappu be transferred from the Ajmer jail, while seeking security for themselves, and a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into Jagan's death.
Asaram said the family would launch an agitation if their demands were not met soon.
THOUSANDS ATTEND JAGAN GURJAR"S CREMATION
Thousands of people attended Jagan's funeral ceremony, with mourners arriving from Dholpur and its neighbouring districts, as well as from Haryana. Hundreds of women were also among the attendees.
A heavy security deployment, including personnel from multiple police stations, the Special Task Force (STF), Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) and senior police officers, remained in place throughout the funeral to maintain law and order.
Besides Pappu, Jagan's two other brothers, Pan Singh and Lal Singh, were also brought under police custody from different jails to attend the cremation.
According to the police, 52-year-old Jagan Gurjar, who faced over 100 criminal cases, was killed using a towel by fellow inmate Vishnu, who was lodged in the same cell.
Authorities have maintained that both men were classified as hardcore prisoners. Jagan, once one of the most notorious dacoits of the Chambal region spanning Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, had surrendered before erstwhile Congress leader Sachin Pilot in 2009 after years of operating in the ravines.
He had been arrested multiple times over the years in connection with several criminal cases and, according to his family, he was most recently arrested in March 2026 under the Arms Act. The investigation into his death is underway.
