Jalna police have arrested five persons, including the alleged purchaser of stolen gold, for their suspected involvement in a series of chain-snatching incidents in Jalna city and recovered stolen property worth Rs 3.7 lakh.

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Jalna police have arrested five people, including the alleged purchaser of stolen gold, for their suspected involvement in a series of chain-snatching incidents in Jalna city.

The police recovered property worth Rs 3.7 lakh.Police said the gang was involved in three cases registered in Jalna, including two chain-snatching incidents and one failed attempt. On July 1, a 1.5-tola gold chain was snatched from 65-year-old Shakuntala Rathi near Kshirsagar Hospital. Earlier the same day, two motorcycle-borne men allegedly attempted to snatch the chain of Sangita Lohia while she was riding a scooter.

On June 29, another 1.5-tola gold chain was snatched from Usha Adane on Ambad Road.Superintendent of police Teghbir Singh said, “The local crime branch was instructed to crack the cases swiftly using technical evidence and intelligence inputs. The coordinated investigation led to the identification and arrest of all the accused, including the receiver of the stolen gold,” he said.Additional SP Vikram Sali said the police recovered a seven-gram gold chain, two motorcycles, two phones, a bag, helmets, a number plate and masks, collectively valued at Rs 3,70,500.
