Jamshedpur: A 21-year-old man was killed by an elephant at Balijuri village of East Singhbhum district in the early hours of Sunday.Abhishek Mandi, a resident of Madotulia village, was out on a morning walk in the forest area when he was attacked by the elephant, forest officials said.The villagers later discovered the body and a trail of elephant footprints on the soil around him. They immediately alerted the forest officials and the local police.The forest officials sent the body to the govt hospital for an autopsy, while further probe is underway.“An ex gratia of Rs 50,000 was handed over to the bereaved family for the last rites. The remaining amount will be given after the necessary legal documentation is completed,” said Musaboni range forester Sukhram Sabar.
Three persons were killed in separate elephant attacks in the Gurabanda block in the past 12 months.On Feb 17, 2026, a 68-year-old man was trampled to death by an elephant at Bengadia village. On Aug 25, 2025, a 35-year-old villager was killed at Balijuri village. In the third incident, a 44-year-old villager was trampled to death by an elephant at Maachbhandar village on March 24, 2025.
