Jamui man kills wife over illicit affair suspicion

Patna: A man allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged weapon over suspicion of an illicit affair in Jamui district early Wednesday morning. The accused, identified as Gagan Manjhi, did not flee after killing his 45-year-old wife Ugni Devi, but sat beside the body.Police took the accused into custody and sent the body to a govt hospital for the postmortem. The incident took place in Kahardih village’s mahadalit tola under Khaira police station area.Police said Gagan long suspected his wife’s character and the couple frequently fought over it. On Wednesday morning, another argument broke out between them. In a fit of rage, Gagan allegedly picked up a sickle and slit Ugni’s throat.

She died on the spot.Gagan worked as a worker at a brick kiln. He married Ugni, a native of Kurushud village, around 25 years ago. The couple had no children. Other family members had already passed away.Khaira SHO Mintu Kumar Singh reached the spot with police force after getting information. A forensic team was also called to the spot to examine every aspect. Police are questioning neighbours to ascertain the full facts.

Sadar SDPO Satish Suman said preliminary investigation points to murder over suspicion of an illicit relationship. “The accused husband has been arrested and evidence is being collected against him. A chargesheet will be filed soon and strict legal action will be taken,” he said.
