Jannik Sinner says Alexander Bublik's performance may have been impacted by his marathon five-set victory in the previous round.

World number one Jannik Sinner stormed into the US Open quarterfinals on Monday, demolishing the big-serving Alexander Bublik with ease. Defending champion Sinner took just 81 minutes to deliver a crushing 6-1, 6-1, 6-1 defeat and secure his spot in the last eight.
After the loss, Bublik smiled and embraced Sinner at the net, telling the Italian, “You’re so good, this is insane."
Sinner noted that Bublik’s performance might have been affected by his marathon five-set victory in the previous round. “He had a very tough match the last match, today he didn’t serve as well as he usually serves, and I broke him early," Sinner said. “Overall, I’m very happy."
Kazakh 23rd seed Bublik had reached Monday’s last 16 clash without dropping a single service game in his three previous rounds, an impressive 55-game streak. However, the 6ft 5in 28-year-old’s previously unbeatable serve was systematically dismantled by the commanding Sinner, who is aiming for his third Grand Slam title of the season in New York.
Sinner set the tone for the match by breaking Bublik’s serve in the opening game of the first set, leading to a one-sided masterclass. The Italian broke Bublik seven more times throughout the match, cruising into a last eight meeting with 10th-seeded compatriot Lorenzo Musetti.
The Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd showed sympathy for Bublik during the third set, cheering loudly when he won a point as Sinner marched relentlessly towards victory. Even Bublik found humour in his situation, raising clenched fists in delight after holding serve successfully in the fifth game of the third set.
Sinner aims to become the first man to defend the US Open crown since Roger Federer won the last of five consecutive titles in 2008. The top-ranked Italian has claimed the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles this season but lost to Carlos Alcaraz in a gruelling five-set battle in the French Open final.
