What was meant to be a day of affection turned into a bloody nightmare as a young woman was brutally attacked for rejecting a romantic proposal on Valentine’s Day. The harrowing incident, which took place on February 14, 2026, in Almane village of Tirthahalli Taluk, has left the victim in critical condition.

According to police reports, the accused, identified as Swaroop, approached the young woman on Saturday to express his love. When the woman firmly rejected his advances, the situation took a dark and violent turn. In a fit of rage, Swaroop reportedly brandished a beer bottle, smashed it, and used the jagged glass shards to repeatedly stab the victim, inflicting deep wounds on her neck and hands.

Medical Emergency

The victim was immediately rushed to J.C. Hospital in Tirthahalli. However, due to the severity of the injuries and the precision required for specialized treatment, she was later transferred to a medical facility in Manipal. Her condition remains a primary concern for medical staff and her family.

The brutality of the assault triggered an immediate and furious reaction from the victim’s relatives and local residents. In the ensuing confrontation, Swaroop was intercepted and reportedly beaten by the crowd, sustaining a head injury in the process.

The Tirthahalli Police arrived at the scene shortly after to prevent further escalation. Swaroop was taken into custody and admitted to J.C. Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for his injuries under heavy police guard to prevent escape or further violence.

Legal Action

An official case has been registered at the Tirthahalli Police Station. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and have recorded statements from eyewitnesses. This incident has once again sparked a debate over the rising trend of “one-sided love" transforming into fatal aggression, with local community leaders calling for stringent punishment to ensure such acts are not repeated.
