The Philadelphia 76ers continue to battle through a tight playoff race in the Eastern Conference, though their push has grown complicated in recent weeks. Injuries across the roster have slowed the team, and they have slipped from sixth to ninth place after dropping three of its past five games.
The standings remain close, with the Toronto Raptors sitting two games ahead.A major storyline behind the recent slide involves the absence of star center Joel Embiid. The reigning MVP candidate has been sidelined since late February with an oblique injury. Another missed appearance on Sunday night against the Portland Trail Blazers added a troubling milestone to his career record. The game marked the point where Embiid reached the same number of games missed as games played during his decade in the NBA.
The stat reflects the long battle he has faced with injuries throughout his career.
Joel Embiid now has a not-so-good NBA record
Sunday’s absence placed Joel Embiid at an unfortunate statistical mark. Over his ten seasons in the league, the All-Star center has now missed 485 games due to injuries. That number matches the 485 games he has played during the same span.
The record reflects the physical toll that has followed Embiid since the beginning of his career.
Several injuries have interrupted otherwise strong seasons. Knee issues troubled him earlier in the year, and the latest setback involves a right oblique strain that has kept him out of the lineup for weeks.Despite those setbacks, his production on the court has remained strong whenever he plays. In 33 games this season, Embiid has averaged 26.6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 blocks per game. He has also limited mistakes with three turnovers per contest, the lowest mark of his career.Philadelphia’s offense looks different without him. The team also dealt with another injury concern after guard Tyrese Maxey hurt his hand earlier in the season. The combination of injuries has forced the coaching staff to adjust rotations during a crucial stretch of the schedule.

The oblique injury occurred on Feb. 28 during a matchup with the Miami Heat. Embiid finished that game despite visible discomfort. The team ruled him out afterward and announced an approximate one-week recovery timeline, with plans for a reevaluation.Nine days later, the team had not released a formal update on his return. Head coach Nick Nurse later told reporters that Embiid had begun individualized on-court work again. The coach suggested that the star center could return before the end of the upcoming road trip.Philadelphia’s schedule now shifts west with games against the Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings, and Utah Jazz before returning home to face the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team hopes Embiid will rejoin the lineup during that stretch.
