District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Friday directed officials to complete by July 10 all pending works on priority roads identified under the 2041 Master Plan to ensure seamless connectivity ahead of the opening of the Bhogapuram International Airport.
Reviewing the progress of the road projects at a meeting held at the Collectorate, Mr. Kishore said road infrastructure, traffic management measures and public transport arrangements should be put in place before the airport is inaugurated.
He instructed officials to speed up the widening of the road at Marikavalasa Junction to ease traffic congestion and complete the Adavivaram-Sontyam road works, except in stretches falling under the Forest Department.
A comprehensive plan should be prepared for improving connectivity at Sontyam Junction, while development works at Kapuluppada Junction and Bheemili-Dorathota Junction should also be accelerated, he said.
Mr. Kishore directed officials to complete the pending works on the Vepagunta-Pinagadi road and expedite construction of the Vepagunta-Juttada road. He stressed that roads connecting with national highways should be developed keeping future traffic requirements in view.
The Collector also instructed officials to instal signboards guiding commuters to the airport, issue traffic advisories with travel time and alternate routes, and ensure the introduction of electric bus services. APSRTC Regional Manager informed the meeting that buses would be ready by July 9, with additional services to be operated using locally available buses if required.
