Kalaburagi district police, who have launched a drive to quell theft cases, have cracked five theft cases with the arrest of five accused, while recovering 170 grams of gold jewellery worth ₹ 17 lakh and ₹2,33,800 in cash from the accused.
Superintendent of Police Adduru Srinivasulu addressing a press conference here on Friday explained the details of all five cases. The police have successfully solved a theft case where gold worth ₹17 lakh was stolen during a marriage function in Karunsagar’s house at Andola in Jewargi taluk, and a case was lodged in Jewargi police station on 17 May 2025. The police collected the details of relatives and friends who attended the marriage and tracked the bank accounts of eight to 10 individuals whom they deemed suspicious and arrested Renuka Sharanabasappa Guled who committed robbery from two women.
In another case, the thieves decamped with a donation box containing ₹40,000 from Veerabhadreshwara temple in Kalgi taluk. Based on the tip-off, the police have arrested Sher Ali who confessed about the crime and stated that Sher Ali along with Kailash Malgi had stolen the donation box. Mr. Adduru said that the accused Sher Ali is a notorious criminal and he was involved in five theft cases. In 2023, Sher Ali waylaid a local reporter, attacked him and snatched his mobile phone.
In the third case, the police have arrested Basavaraj Ghhodke , who was involved in grocery store robbery at Savaleshwara village in Aland taluk on June 10. The accused committed theft at the grocery store belonging to Parameshwar Bansure and took away grocery items worth ₹18,000 and ₹7,000 in cash.
The police have solved a robbery case in Narona village on Aland taluk, where they arrested accused Siddaram Bali of Lad Chincholi and recovered ₹1.2 lakh from him. In the fifth case, the police arrested Shivanand Kale of Nellur in Aland taluk. The accused had stolen ₹8,000 cash from a hotel.
Police recovered ₹19.15 lakh in seven cases in a month.
The district police have solved seven theft cases , arresting five persons and two minors, and recovered ₹19.15 lakh in the last one month.
Of the seven cases, Sarita Kashinath and Karuna Siddaraj were involved in three cases; Bheemashankar Jamadar and Ashok Jadhav were involved in three cases, while Basavaraj Ghodke and two minors were booked in one theft case, Mr. Adduru briefed.
