Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and four-time parliamentarian Kalyan Banerjee has once again criticised his party colleague Mahua Moitra, calling her “low standard." The TMC leader further stated that she is not worth his time or energy.

Addressing reporters, Banerjee said, “That lady is not my subject matter at all and she is very below the standard. There is no point talking about her. I got angry for her and said a few things to Didi (Mamata Banerjee) too. Now I feel bad about it," he said.

He added that a message from a junior lawyer helped shift his perspective on the matter.

“A lawyer’s text message has changed my perception on the matter. It was a wastage of time and energy. She doesn’t deserve my attention. I made a mistake by giving her attention," said the Srerampur MP.

The fued between the two TMC MPs intensified after Moitra, in a podcast interview with, referred to Banerjee as a “pig" while reacting to his earlier comments about her personal life, specifically her marriage with BJD MP Pinaki Mishra.

“You don’t wrestle with a pig. Because the pig likes it and you get dirty. There are deeply misogynistic, sexually frustrated, depraved men in India and they have their representation in parliament across all parties," Moitra had said.

In response to Moitra’s comments, Banerjee wrote on social media platform X, " “I have taken note of the recent personal remarks made by Mahua Moitra in a public podcast. Her choice of words, including the use of dehumanising language such as comparing a fellow MP to a “pig", is not only unfortunate but reflects a deep disregard for basic norms of civil discourse."

He added, “Those who think invective can replace substance should take a hard look at the kind of politics they are practising – and the hollowness it exposes. When a public representative stoops to name-calling and coarse innuendo, it reflects not strength, but insecurity."

After the two MPs traded barbs, Banerjee resigned from his post as the TMC’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha. His resignation was accepted by the party, and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar was appointed as the new chief whip. Satabdi Roy was named the new deputy leader of the party in the Lower House.
