The nine-day annual Brahmotsavam at Sri Kalyana Venkateswara temple in Srinivasa Mangapuram concluded with the ‘Chakra Snanam’ ritual in the temple tank, on Monday.
The TTD made a separate enclosure for VIPs within the tank, where local legislator Pulivarthi Nani, his wife and TDP women’s wing leader Pulivarthi Sudha Reddy, TTD’s special grade deputy EO V. Varalakshmi and others had a holy dip.
Earlier, ‘Pallaki Utsavam’ was performed between 6.30 a.m. and 7.30 a.m., where the processional idols of Kalyana Venkateswara and his consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi were taken out in a procession, along with the idol of ‘Sudarsana Chakra’ or ‘Chakrathalwar’.
The ‘Dhwajavarohanam’ ritual was held in the evening, when the holy flag hoisted on the first day was formally brought down by the officiating priest (Kankanabhattar) Balaji Rangacharyulu, signalling the end of the nine-day celestial fete.
Food served
Nearly 20,000 devotees were served close to 10 varieties of ‘Prasadam’ in the temple kitchen during the festival. Meanwhile, main days like Garuda Seva, Rathotsavam and Chakra Snanam saw a whopping 25,000 to 30,000 receiving food at the Annaprasadam counter.
While 100 ‘Srivari Sevaks’ (volunteers) rendered service during the festival, the TTD’s medical wing extended services to nearly 1,000 devotees. 1,500 devotees received free medicines from S.V. Ayurvedic hospital, a TTD release said.
