I could have lost my legs or worse

What was meant to be a fun video turned into a frightening accident for actress Karishma Sharma. On Wednesday, the Ragini MMS: Returns actress, along with a friend, her hairdresser and a photographer, was at Andheri to board a Churchgate local when, in a moment of panic, she jumped off the moving train and was left injured and shaken.

Recounting the incident, she shares, “I wanted to shoot inside the train. While boarding, I saw my friends walking slowly and panicked when they didn’t get on after me. Out of fear, I jumped in the wrong direction just as the train started moving. I landed on the platform on my back, hit my head and blacked out. After that, I only remember flashes. I recall the police arriving, throwing up several times at the station, and then being rushed to the hospital.

She admits the accident could have been far worse. She shares, “My friends later told me I had fallen dangerously close to the train. Had I slipped just an inch or two closer, I could have lost my legs or worse.”The actress recalls how vulnerable the experience left her. She says, “I am not someone who cries easily, but that day I broke down on the phone while talking to my mother. She immediately flew in from Patna. I was discharged the next day, but had to return to the hospital because the pain persisted and I began forgetting things I had said to people.

I have never been through something so painful. It’s truly traumatic.”She also has a word of caution for commuters. “I would tell everyone, especially new travellers, to be more careful. Do not panic and do not jump off a moving train. I was extremely stupid to do that. Although I acted out of fear, some people do it for fun. One should not play around because life is so precious,” she says.
