DK Shivakumar, elected Congress Legislature Party leader, heads to Delhi to finalise the Karnataka cabinet as lobbying intensifies for minister posts and Deputy Chief Minister role

With DK Shivakumar elected as the Congress Legislature Party leader, attention has now shifted to the formation of the new Karnataka cabinet.

Shivakumar is expected to travel to New Delhi soon to hold discussions with the Congress high command and finalise the list of ministers who will be sworn in along with him on June 3.

At the same time, competition for cabinet berths has intensified, with several aspirants heading to the national capital to lobby the party leadership. Senior Congress legislators Sharan Prakash Patil, Raghavendra Basavaraj Hitnal and Basanagouda Daddal were among those who left for Delhi from Kempegowda International Airport near Bengaluru.

Sources indicate that the race for the Deputy Chief Minister’s post is also heating up. Under the Dalit representation quota, senior leader G. Parameshwara and minister Priyank Kharge are said to be among the frontrunners, with strong lobbying underway within party circles.

As the countdown to the June 3 swearing-in ceremony begins, all eyes are now on Delhi, where crucial decisions on the Cabinet’s composition are expected to be taken in the coming days.
