A video showing a Congress leader dancing with a gun to a song from the movie ‘Dhurandhar’ triggered controversy, with the politician claiming the firearm was actually a toy lighter. The video featured Afzalpur Congress leader and former Zilla Panchayat member Mateen Patel, who is seen posing with what appears to be a gun while dancing.

The clip quickly spread across social media platforms. Responding to the outrage, Mateen Patel issued a clarification stating that the object in the video was not a real gun but a toy lighter-gun. He explained that the video was shot on January 18 during a private event organized at his residence ahead of his sister’s daughter’s wedding.

“All family members were dancing and enacting roles during the event and I briefly joined in after children insisted," Mateen Patel said, adding, “I held a lighter-gun only for a moment."

The former Zilla Panchayat member emphasised that only family members were present at the event and that he does not believe in gun culture or the public display of weapons.

Mateen Patel alleged that the video was being circulated with the deliberate intention of tarnishing his image.

“This is a malicious attempt to damage my reputation," he said.

Despite the controversy, Mateen Patel said he had voluntarily handed over the toy items to the police even before being asked and welcomed a police inquiry into the matter.
