The Karur Town Police has registered a case against BJP Karur district president V.V. Senthilnathan for making derogatory remarks against Congress MP S. Jothimani during a demonstration organised by the BJP near the Head Post Office in the town recently.
The case was booked on Sunday acting on a complaint from N. Ramesh, Karur district president of the Congress under various sections of the BNS read with Section 4 of the Tamil Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act. Police sources adding that investigation was on.
Condemning Mr. Senthilnathan’s remarks. Ms. Jothimani in a social media post said “what happened to me is not a personal incident. It is part of a long and continuing pattern of individual, obscene attacks that women who step into public spaces in this country have faced for generations.”
“Sexually degrading language, threats and public humiliation are not accidental. For years, they have been deliberately used as weapons against women. These obscene attacks are carried out to silence women, to drive us out of public spaces, out of politics and out of leadership”, Ms. Jothimani said.
“Viewing women merely as sexual objects, as machines for reproduction, humiliating women and using obscene attacks as a political weapon is the ideology of the BJP and the RSS. From the BJP state leadership down to district level leaders, this mindset is openly on display”, she charged.
